Sports center in the small field

In the sports center Im kleine Felde in the East Westphalian town of Herford in North Rhine-Westphalia , several independent sports and leisure facilities are located close together. It consists of an outdoor pool , an ice rink , a shooting range and a recreational sports facility . The first plants were opened in 1980 in the area of a former brick factory.

location

The various facilities are located on a spur road that can be reached from the Westring. Opposite the dead-end street, the street "Im Kleine Felde", after which the sports center and the individual sports facilities were named, opens up. The car park for the sports facilities is on the corner of Westring and Im Kleine Felde, and behind it is the area of the Brax clothing company .

outdoor pool

The outdoor pool has a 50-meter pool, a non-swimmer pool with a water slide, and sunbathing lawns under old trees. Next to the non-swimmer pool is the toddler area with the water toys. The beach volleyball court is available to guests at all times.

The water of the outdoor pool is heated in summer with the same system that is used to freeze the ice in the ice rink in winter. Since both facilities are never open at the same time, the cooling and heating system can be operated over a long period of the year.

Ice rink

Ice rink "Im Kleinen Felde"

Like the outdoor pool, the ice rink was opened in 1980. Originally the stadium had a tent roof and was open on three sides. Even before the opening, the Herford Ice Skating Association (HEG) was founded, which played the home games in the ice rink with its ice hockey club. The stadium flourished in the late 1980s, when up to 4,000 spectators regularly watched the games. This made the Herford EG one of the ten ice hockey clubs with the highest average attendance in the region.

With some residents complaining about the noise, the stadium capacity was limited to 800. In 1988 the audience limit was increased to 1,000. In 2000 a hall was built over the ice rink. Since then, the hall has a capacity of approx. 2,000 seats, there are no seats. Since the beginning of the 2007/08 season there has been a strict smoking ban in the hall.

After the Herford ice skating community filed for bankruptcy in 1994, a new club called Herford Ice Hockey Club (HEC) was founded, which was also dissolved in 2004 due to bankruptcy. Since then, the Herford Ice Hockey Club (HEV) has been playing there, which has given itself the nickname "Ice Dragons".

In addition to ice hockey, there are other offers such as ice skating, ice skating courses, curling and ice disco. There is also an ice skate rental and a restaurant available.

Stadtwerke Herford

Since 1994, the outdoor pool and the ice rink have been operated by Freizeiteinrichtungen Stadtwerke Herford GmbH (FSH GmbH), a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Herford , which also operate the leisure pool H2O and the outdoor pool in Herford- Elverdissen .

Other sports facilities

Within the facilities of the ice rink there is a shooting range that is used by the Herford-Radewig shooting club. In the neighborhood there is a recreational sports facility with a small artificial turf field, a small asphalt field and a street basketball facility.
