The Spot Pond is a drinking water reservoir in Middlesex County of the US state of Massachusetts . The pond is on the Middlesex Fells Reservation , a state park in Massachusetts.
history
Spot Pond got its name in 1632 by the governor John Winthrop .
In the lake is Great Island, an inland island with a granite memorial stone with the mysterious inscription “Where Shute Fell” (Where Shute Fell). It is not known who set the memorial stone and on what occasion. Possibly it refers to a wrestler from Haywardsville , as many prize fights were fought on the island in the 19th century.
Spot Pond gave its name to the Spot Pond Archeological District , the site of the abandoned Haywardsville settlement near the Hayward Rubber Works' rubber mills .
