Spotted tail
Sinte Galeshka , also Sinte Gleska or Sinte Gleśka (Lkt: Siŋté Glešká), known as Spotted Tail , (* around 1823 on the White River ( South Dakota ); † August 5, 1881 ) was a chief of the Brulé - Lakota - Indians .
The English name Spotted Tail (spotted tail) he got from white fur hunters. In his youth he was called Jumping Buffalo . He did not receive the chieftainship through heredity, but through his achievements as a warrior.
On June 6, 1870, Spotted Tail was a member of a Native American delegation that visited the White House in Washington DC. While in captivity at Fort Laramie for a period, he learned to read and write in English.
On August 5, 1881, he was shot dead by Crow Dog . Spotted Tail is buried in a cemetery on the Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota.
