Speech therapy school
A language therapy school is a special school or special school for people with language disabilities . This term has meanwhile been replaced in Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia by the term “ primary school (or secondary level I ) with a special educational focus on language” .

At speech healing schools, lessons are given according to the framework curriculum of the mainstream schools , but emphasized internally , in small classes with approx. 12-14 students and supplemented by specific therapy offers. These usually include speech therapy services, i. H. those based on knowledge and experience in speech therapy . Appropriately trained special school teachers create diagnoses for this and derive the respective therapies from them, which in turn are recorded in regular reports. If the students have exhausted their therapy , they have so far been (again) referred to mainstream schools or possibly other special schools .
Symptoms of the pupil
The language disabilities of the students can have different or several causes, i. H. organic as psychogenic nature be taken and tell for themselves or nothing about the intelligence of their education or ability. Very often they are a symptom of a developmental delay , a distinction being made here between a language development disorder and a specific language development disorder .
To maintain the language schools contrary to EU guidelines
There is now an EU directive according to which, instead of special schools, a consistent inclusion school model should generally be used. But although the phasing out has already been decided by this Directive, in states such as Berlin 2011, and individual schools were granted extended deadlines inventory with a program focusing on language again and again, as at the regular schools u. a. the additional support requirements for the individual students by the teachers cannot be guaranteed due to insufficient staffing and / or lack of further training.
