The Wennigsen Spritzenhaus is a fire station built in 1903 in the center of Wennigsen . Since 1983 it has been looked after by a non-profit association and used as an exhibition space for handicrafts . The house is owned by the municipality of Wennigsen (Deister).

fire Department

The Wennigsen volunteer fire brigade was founded on December 1st, 1902. Previously, an extinguishing association had ensured fire protection . When it was founded, the fire brigade received a hand-operated pressure syringe , which required adequate accommodation. In the street Am Sacke , located directly on the Wennigser Mühlbach , the former community of Wennigsen built the house. The entire area was later renamed the fire station . A brick hall was built in typical red clinker brick and a wooden tower to dry the hoses. A group of climbers practiced climbing on this too. Later the wooden tower was replaced by a brick tower.

Until after the Second World War , a room with a barred window was also used as a local holding cell. Up until the 1970s, the buildings in the town center were supplied with electricity via overhead lines from the brick- built transformer station attached to the rear .

At the western corner of the building, the mill operating ditch emerges again, which crosses the fire station underground. It then follows the northwest side of the building. Also is a devoted of the volunteer fire department on this side of the building plaque for the First World War casualties .

Reuse

Re-use as an exhibition space

In 1980 the Wennigsen volunteer fire brigade moved into a converted mousetrap factory on Heisterweg. The previously used fire station was initially empty and fell into disrepair. A demolition or substantial renovation was not permitted due to the alleged belonging to a protected ensemble of village industrial culture.

An association specifically founded in 1983 to promote arts and crafts has converted the building and uses it for exhibitions and as a sales area. It also houses a small artist workshop. In addition, concerts, readings and lectures take place in the Spritzenhaus.
