Spyros Sakkas

Spyros Sakkas , Greek Σπύρος Σακκάς (* 1938 in Athens ) is a Greek opera singer (baritone).

Life

Sakkas studied singing at the Athens Conservatory with Kimon Triantaphyllou and Marica Kalphopoulou until 1964 . At the Mozarteum in Salzburg he was a student of Max Lorenz and Paul von Schilhawsky (song and oratorio).

He began his career as a baritone at the Braunschweig State Theater . In addition to appearances in many opera houses in Europe and the USA, he worked for radio and television and also worked as a film actor. Sakkas is a specialist in contemporary music and sang world premieres of works by composers such as George Crumb , Iannis Xenakis , Manos Hadjidakis , Wilhelm Killmayer , Günter Bialas , Theodore Antoniou , Antonis Apergis , Jani Christou , Joseph Castaldo , René Koering , Georges Couroupos , Gérard Grisey , Lejaren Hiller , Ahmed Essyad and Mikis Theodorakis .

For twenty years he toured around the world, on which he performed songs by Manos Hadjidakis , accompanied by the composer on the piano . He is also dedicated to researching and performing historical Greek music.
