Aschaffenburg Municipal Music School

The Aschaffenburg Municipal Music School is the oldest music school in Germany.

history

The school was opened in 1810 by Elector Carl Theodor von Dalberg as a community music school. Between 1905 and 1939 it was housed in the city theater and had a concert podium in the Deutschhaussaal there. Important musicians of the 20th century such as Paul Hindemith , Hans Pfitzner and Max Reger gave concerts here. After the war, the music school took over in 1959 under Dr. Karl Friedrich light up the lessons again; The city's schools served as classrooms. The event of the 200th birthday in 2010 was celebrated with an exhibition, over 100 auditions and concerts - including a performance in the Schöntal ruins.

Today there are still teaching events, next to the house in Kochstrasse, in a total of eight rooms throughout Aschaffenburg . Today (2013) the music school has over 1,500 students, the Großostheim branch alone, which joined the school in 1989, has 350 students.

The building, built before the war like a medieval castle with cyclopean masonry as a "Hitler Youth Home", housed the municipal children's home after 1945 (destroyed in the war). In 1982, after extensive renovations, the Aschaffenburg Municipal Music School moved in. The building in Kochstrasse has 21 classrooms and a concert hall with 182 seats. An important music library is also housed here.

Young people make music

Students from the Aschaffenburg Municipal Music School regularly take part in the Jugend musiziert competition and also win prizes across the region.
