The municipal gas and electricity works Gernrode is a listed building in the district of Stadt Gernrode, part of the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The building of the municipal gas and electricity works Gernrode is located northeast of the Gernröder old town on the east side of the Töpferstieg at its northern end and is registered as a power plant in the local register of monuments. A little further to the northeast is the Gernrode train station .

Architecture and history

The plant was built in 1910 and has largely been preserved from the construction period. The design was in Art Nouveau style , but was based on the regional building tradition. The individual wings of the building are covered with hip roofs and mansard roofs with crooked hip.

In 1920 the city's gas and electricity works were connected to the Agwea . In 1930 it was connected to the Oberlandzentrale Ostharz . In 1937, the plant was the gasworks operating company Berlin leased.
