The Städtische Gymnasium Straelen (SGS for short) is the only grammar school in the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Straelen in the Kleve district .

The school

The Straelen Municipal Gymnasium has three to four classes and includes secondary levels I and II. In the 2017/18 school year, around 700 students in 18 classes attend the school and are taught by 50 teachers.

The school is supported by the Friends and Patrons of the Städtisches Gymnasium Straelen eV and maintains a student cooperative. In addition, one is certified by the State Institute for Media North Rhine-Westphalia (LfM) as a media scout school in North Rhine-Westphalia and a member of GuPiS, the working group for health education and prevention work in the school in the Kleve district.

The Städtische Gymnasium Straelen is the seat of a branch of the zdi-Zentrum Kreis Kleve cleverMINT of the community initiative Future through Innovation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and together with the secondary school Straelen / Wachtendonk and the Katharinenschule form the school village Straelen.

history

Up until 1995, grammar school lessons were held in the buildings of the St. Anno secondary school in Straelen . The Straelen municipal high school was founded in 1992 and for the 1995/96 school year it moved to a newly built school building within the school village on Fontanestrasse.

Projects (selection)

Since 2014 the pupils have been producing bee honey with their pupil cooperative Honeybees eSG as well as insect hotels in cooperation with Landgard eG and the cooperative association Rhineland Westphalia.

Since 2014, the project consists BYOD - Media scouts in cooperation with the secondary Straelen-Wachtendonk and by a working group of the Duisburg-Essen University academic support and resources from the development program from an early age of Gelsenwasser AG financed. The aim is to sensibly integrate the use of private student devices (bring your own device) such as cell phones, smartphones or tablets into the classroom.

In 2017 the students of the religion course published an information brochure on the stumbling blocks in Straelen. The project was funded by the historical association for money and the surrounding area.

  • 2010: In the quality analysis of the district government of North Rhine-Westphalia, the SGS scored excellent or good in 21 of 25 assessed categories.
  • 2012: Winner of the first EUFH-School Challenge of the European University of Applied Sciences .
  • 2014: At the 10th VDE Technology Prize , 3rd place went to the Straelen municipal high school for the Robotelligence project .
  • 2017: School award of the IHK-Initiative Schule-Wirtschaft for the student team of the municipal high school in Straelen.
  • 2017: Sponsorship award at the Federal President's 2016/17 history competition of the Körber Foundation for the project Life after the Flight How Evangelism Came to Straelen .
