Stéphane Bauer
Stéphane Bauer (born November 3, 1962 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , France) is a French curator and art educator. Since 2002 he has been heading the Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien in Berlin.
Life
Stéphane Bauer grew up in Nice / France, Bloomington / USA and Bonn / Germany.
He studied sociology, political science, psychology and economics at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn and at the Free University of Berlin. He graduated with a degree in sociology with the thesis "Change and Renewal of the" sociologie du travail "" (an analysis of the history of science on the emergence of the "theory of regulation").
Stéphane Bauer gained his first experiences in the field of culture in the AStA (General Student Committee) and in the initiative for a self-administered youth and cultural center in Bonn eV. He then worked for the Federal Association of Student Cultural Work in Bonn, worked as a freelancer at the Berlin University of the Arts at the Institute for Art Education and since July 1990 managing director of the Kreuzberg Art Office. Since 1997 Stéphane Bauer has curated exhibitions in Berlin at the Kunstamt Kreuzberg, in the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst eV and in the Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien , of which he has been director since 2002.
From 2002 to 2008, Stéphane Bauer also directed the two-week international cultural mediator's seminar at the Goethe Institute in Berlin once a year. Since the 2008/09 winter semester, Stéphane Bauer has been teaching at the Institute for Art in the Context of the Berlin University of the Arts and is a lecturer in curatorial practice at the Bildungswerk der Berufsverband Bildender Künstler Berlin.
His projects took him to Accra / Ghana, Belgrade / Serbia, Brussels / Belgium, Chicago / USA, Jerusalem / Israel, Cairo / Egypt, Madrid / Spain, Paris / France, Prague / Czech Republic, Ramallah / Palestinian Territories, for lectures and workshops, Sao Paulo / Brazil, Tokyo / Japan, Warsaw / Poland and in German cities.
Stéphane Bauer has been a member of the Berlin Council for the Arts since March 2008 .
