Stöfler is an impact crater to the south of the lunar front , southeast of Mare Nubium , east of Tycho crater and west of Maurolycus . The crater is heavily eroded, its southeastern part is covered by Faraday . The interior is largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Johannes Stöffler .
