Faraday is an impact crater in the south of the front of the moon , southeast of Mare Nubium , west of Maurolycus crater and southeast of Stöfler , the interior of which it partially covers. The crater is eroded and the crater rim is overlapped by the side craters Faraday A and Faraday C .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British physicist and chemist Michael Faraday .
