Stühlmeyer
Stühlmeyer is a German family name.
Origin and meaning
The name Stühlmeyer is an expanded form of the name Meier ( lat. Maior or maius "bigger, stronger, more important"). A Meier was originally an administrator. There was the caretaker ( maior domus ) in the feudal-political area and in the country the estate manager .
Stühlmeyer, originally chair maior - in Middle High German the Latin maior evolves to Meyer or Meier - is documented in the Osnabrück area in the Middle Ages and denotes the office of chair administrator of the Gogericht there .
