Benjamin Thau

Benjamin Thau (often also: Benny Thau ; * December 15, 1898 , † July 5, 1983 in Los Angeles ) was an American film manager. As Vice President of the Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , he had been in charge of the talent search and talent development of the actors in this company since 1928.

Life

Thau, of his career as a vaudeville booker at Loew's had begun in 1928 by MGM studio boss Louis B. Mayer to casting director made this company. Since MGM relied on a first-class, permanently engaged crew of stars more than any other Hollywood film studio , its office was from then on the busiest in the American film industry. Thau worked closely with Edgar "Eddie" Mannix , who also held the rank of Vice President at MGM .

In 1956, Thau replaced Dore Schary , who had been MGM studio boss since 1951. He was only able to hold onto this position for a short time and was replaced by Sol Siegel .

Thau was unmarried, but had a long-term love affair with film actress Nancy Davis , who later became Ronald Reagan's wife .
