St-Étienne is a Roman Catholic parish church in Roquetaillade in the Aude department in France .

history

The parish church, consecrated to the holy arch-martyr Stephanus , goes back to a medieval predecessor building from around 1300, from which the north wall of today's parish church has been preserved. A burial in the church could be dated to around 1427 through a coin find from the time of Charles VII . Between 1573 and 1584 the church was badly damaged in the Wars of Religion.

The reconstruction of the Stephanuskirche took place in the 17th century under the episcopate of Nicolas Pavillon, who was Bishop of Alet between 1637 and 1677 . Inside, rich original furnishings have been preserved in the church. The building still follows the typical Romanesque country churches in the region. The three-aisled nave is single-aisled, and a semicircular apse adjoins the choir bay in the east.
