St-Barthélémy (German: St. Bartholomäus) is a church of the Lutheran Protestant Church of the Augsburg Confession of Alsace and Lorraine in Gertwiller ( Département Bas-Rhin ) in France . The church has been on the French Heritage Register since 1977.

history

The church of St-Barthélémy was first mentioned in 1206. The lower floors of the Romanesque choir tower with figurative decorations are dated to the third quarter of the 12th century . The choir room inside the tower was redesigned in the Gothic period and has frescoes from the 14th / 15th centuries. Century. The nave was replaced by a new hall structure in 1845–47 according to plans by Antoineringenisen. The elevation of the tower in 1858 also goes back to ring iron.

In 1554 the Reformation was introduced to the church . Since 1685/86 the house of God served Lutherans and Catholics as a simultaneous church by order of the French government . The Simultaneum ended in 1939 with the construction of a new Roman Catholic church in Gertwiller.
