The Roman Catholic Church of Saint-Epvre (German St. Aper ) is located in Contrexéville in the canton of Vittel in the Vosges department in France . The former choir tower of the church is registered as a monument historique .

history

The oldest part of the church is the choir tower from the 12th century , to which a rectangular apse was originally added in the east. The walled Gothic arch to the apse is still visible from the outside. The Romanesque nave of the church was replaced by a larger new building in the 16th century. This in turn was completely demolished when the church had to give way to a new building except for the tower in 1774–1777. The traditional east-facing of the church was abandoned and the new choir of the church was oriented towards the south. The former choir tower now stands east of the northern part of the church. The rib-vaulted former choir serves as a baptistery .
