The St-Feuillien brewery

St-Feuillien is a Belgian brewery in the small town of Le Rœulx , Hainaut province . In 2014, 40,000 hl of beer were brewed.

history

The brewery was founded in 1873 by the Friart family and is now run by the fourth generation of brewers. The Friarts named their brewery after the Irish saint Feuillien , who was murdered in 655 (or 656) in the Soignies forest on what is now the small town of Le Rœulx. First a chapel was built there in his memory, but it was replaced in 1125 by the Premonstratensian monastery of Saint-Feuillien du Rœulx . The canons brewed their own beer in the monastery there for centuries, until Saint-Feuillien du Rœulx was abandoned as a result of the turmoil of the French Revolution . The Friart family resumed this historic brewing tradition of the Premonstratensian in Le Rœulx in 1873. The brewery is a member of the Belgian Family Brewers .
