St-Géniès in Uzes

St-Géniès is the ruin of a Romanesque church in Uzès in the French department of Gard . The ruin has been classified as a Monument historique since 1949 .

description

St-Géniès was first mentioned in 1156 in a privilege granted by King Louis VII to Raymond, Bishop of Uzes . The ruins suggest that the three-aisled church must have been of considerable size. Only the area of the choir with a three-apse in the east has been preserved. The middle semicircular apse was higher and larger than the two flanking outer apses. Part of the vaulting has been preserved in the central and southern apse. The extensions of the side walls suggest the existence of a transept.
