Hafþór Sigrúnarson (born July 9, 1997 ) is an Icelandic ice hockey player who has been playing again at Skautafélag Akureyrar in the Icelandic ice hockey league since 2018 .

Career

Hafþór Sigrúnarson began his career at Skautafélag Akureyrar , for whom he made his debut in the second team, called Jötnar, in the Icelandic ice hockey league as a 14-year-old . From 2012 he also played for Vikingar, the club's first team, with whom he became Icelandic champions in 2013 and 2014 . In the 2013/14 season he was also active in the youth division of the Norwegian first division club Sparta Sarpsborg , for whom he played mainly in the U18 team, but also twice in the U20 team. In 2014 he moved to IFK Ore in the Swedish U18 league, but returned to his home club in Akureyri the following year and won his third championship title with Skautafélag. In 2017, the Kingsville Kings from the Greater Metro Hockey League selected him in the GMHL Draft in the fourth round as 102nd player, but he did not move to Canada, but stayed in Europe. After spending the 2017/18 season at Lenhovda IF in the fifth-rate Swedish Division 3 , he has played again for Skautafélag Akureyrar since 2018.

International

In the junior division, Hafþór Sigrúnarson took part with Iceland in the U18 World Championships 2013 and 2014 in Division II and 2015 in Division III and the U20 World Championships 2013 , 2014 and 2015 in Division II and 2016 and 2017 in Division III.

Hafþór Sigrúnarson played for the Icelandic men's national team for the first time at the 2016 World Cup in Division II. In 2018 , he also played in Division II.
