St-Jean-Baptiste (German: St. John the Baptist) is a Roman Catholic chapel in the Alsatian parish of Dambach-la-Ville in the Bas-Rhin department . It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1965 . The chapel stands free on a field south of the village and is the only remaining building in the former village of Altenweiler.

history

Today's field chapel represents the remaining remains of the former parish church of Altenweiler, which was restored in the 17th century. The building of the church is dated to the 12th century. The chapel is the rectangular, just closed choir of the parish church. The north-east side dates from the time the parish church was built, the rest was built in the 13th and 14th centuries. In the west side of the chapel, the walled-in triumphal arch to the choir can be seen, in which a smaller round arch portal was inserted.
