St Laurent Church

St-Laurent is a Roman Catholic church in the Lorraine municipality of Spicheren , near the German-French border.

history

The church dedicated to St. Lawrence of Rome was built in 1830. Before that, there was a chapel at that point, which had become too small at the time. In 1850 an organ from the organ builder Haerpfer & Erman from Boulay was installed. During the Battle of Spichern on August 6, 1870 , the church was used as a hospital for French soldiers. The modern windows date from the 1960s.

Furnishing

The church has all-round wood paneling, wooden benches, choir stalls and a richly carved pulpit from before the world wars. The resurrection and ascension of Jesus are depicted in the two choir paintings . The four bells also come from the old days.
