Haerpfer & Erman
The company Hærpfer & Erman (previously Dalstein-Hærpfer ) was a French organ builder in Boulay . It existed from 1863 to 1999. Hærpfer worked mainly in Lorraine , but also in Saarland and the Palatinate .
Company history
In 1863, Johann Karl Härpfer (1835–1909), who had learned from Steinmeyer in Oettingen and later worked with Walcker in Ludwigsburg and Friedrich Haas in Lucerne, with Nicolas-Etienne Dalstein (1834–1900) , who worked for Cavaillé-Coll in Paris Organ building company in Bolchen (now Boulay) in Lorraine.
Their first organ was delivered to Téterchen . Härpfer adopted a French spelling of his name and the company was called “Dalstein & Hærpfer” from then on. At Walcker, Haas and Cavaillé-Coll, Hærpfer had copied the lengths of many registers and was responsible as voicer for the tonal design of the instruments. Dalstein was a carpenter and designed the mechanics.
Dalstein & Hærpfer introduced the cone drawer back in 1865 . For particularly large instruments, they made Barker machines (e.g. Nancy, St-Etienne) and from 1892 pneumatic action mechanisms (e.g. Hayange). At the beginning of the 20th century, important organs of the Alsatian organ reform were created in collaboration with Albert Schweitzer .
In 1909 Fritz (Frédéric) Hærpfer (1879–1956) and Paul Dalstein (1868–1926) took over the management of the company, who introduced a neo-baroque sound ideal. In 1919 Frédéric Hærpfer became the sole owner of the company, which from then on was called Manufacture Lorraine des Grandes Orgues . In 1946 his son Walter Hærpfer merged with Pierre Erman under the name "Hærpfer & Erman". Between 1948 and 1967 alone they built more than 250 organs (mostly with electric action ), which were delivered to France, Germany and North Africa.
In 1979 Théo Hærpfer (1946 - June 12, 1998) took over the company and separated from Pierre Erman. With him there was a return to the mechanical sliding drawer . After his death the company was dissolved.
