The Church of St. Bonifatius is a Catholic parish church in Überherrn , Saarlouis district . It bears the patronage of St. Boniface , the "Apostle of the Germans". In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The parish church of St. Bonifatius was built between 1928 and 1929 according to plans by the architects Ludwig Becker and Anton Falkowski ( Mainz ).

In 1976 the church underwent a restoration . In 1996 the sanctuary was rebuilt .

In 2010/2011 the interior of the church was renovated. The cost of this was 300,000 euros.

Architecture and equipment

The church building in Überherrner Lindenstrasse is dominated by the 33 meter high church tower that can be seen from afar . The church was built in an expressionist style. The architects Becker and Falkowski chose a similar style for other of their church buildings in the region. For example, at the St. Elisabeth church in the Altenkessel district of Saarbrücken , at the St. Bonifatius church in Püttlingen or at the St. Laurentius church in the Bubach-Calmesweiler district of Eppelborn .

The interior of the church is defined by a barrel vault with net-like structures, which laterally merges into a flat ceiling section, which in turn merges into a hollow that forms the connection to the side walls of the nave. In the choir , which also has a barrel vault, there are also net-like structures. The choir is closed in the east by an apse .

On the back wall of the choir there is a mosaic of the crucifixion created by Hans Thomas ( Cologne ).

In the gable of the west facade above the main portal and the three windows above there is a six meter high statue of St. Boniface carved in stone .

In front of the south facade of the church is the so-called Guldnerkreuz , a wayside cross by the sculptor Adam Guldner from 1760. Like the Bonifatiuskirche, the wayside cross is also on the list of monuments.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1953 by the French organ builder Haerpfer & Erman ( Boulay ).
