history

The place was created in the 19th century as a miners' residence because of the hard coal deposits . On February 7, 1962, a major mining accident occurred under Altenkessel in the neighboring Luisenthal mine, with 299 dead miners.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on July 15, 1952.

Blazon : "Under a silver shield head, in it a black iron and a black mallet crossed diagonally, covered with a black miner's lamp, diagonally divided by red and silver, a silver anchor cross above, a blue anchor below."

The community emerged as a miners 'settlement after 1852, as indicated by the miners' emblems. The ship anchor stands for the Rockershausen district on the Saar, while the anchor cross is taken from the coat of arms of Püttlingen, with which the municipality was combined in one office until 1947 and to which the municipality belonged until the municipality of Altenkessel was founded.

The coat of arms was designed by A. Dochermann.
