history

Scheidt once belonged to the community of Bischmisheim (today also a district of Saarbrücken) and thus to the Sankt Arnual monastery . With the monastery, the church became Protestant in 1575.

On October 15, 1879, the connection to the extension of the Würzbach Railway from St. Ingbert to Saarbrücken, now part of the Mannheim – Saarbrücken railway line, followed .

The now independent community Scheidt was incorporated into Saarbrücken with effect from January 1, 1974 ( list of districts of Saarbrücken ). Scheidt houses the Saarbrücken state archive .

Worth seeing

The Evangelical Church Scheidt goes back to a village chapel, which was built around the year 1350. In the Thirty Years' War it was badly damaged and replaced by a baroque building in 1737 , whereby the Romanesque choir was retained. In 1870 the choir was torn down and a 25 meter high tower was built in the neo-Romanesque style. In 1957 the church was expanded to include an extension on the entrance side. The bells are from 1949 and 1958.

The Catholic parish church of St. Ursula , consecrated in 1935, is one of the buildings worth seeing in Scheidt . The simple and cubic-looking sacred building with its clear design language was built according to plans by the architect Jacob Quirin. Inside, in the chancel , it houses Secco paintings by the important Belgian graphic artist , draftsman and painter Frans Masereel from 1948.

population

On December 31, 2008, the place had 4097 inhabitants.

Sports

SV Scheidt 1910

Probably the most famous club in Scheidt is SV Scheidt 1910. Just two years after it was founded, the young SV Scheidt had 70 members. The wars of the 20th century also left their mark on football: 13 SVS athletes lost their lives in the First World War, and in the Second World War, games could be maintained until 1942. After the war, the Scheidter were an integral part of the district league A. It was not until the 1980s that they were promoted to the district league.

TV Scheidt

The TV Scheidt is a so-called multi-branch association. It was founded in 1886 and offers numerous opportunities to do sports on its club complex in Wiesental. The areas on offer include beach volleyball, boules, fistball, Nordic walking, skiing, taekwondo, tennis, gymnastics and volleyball.
