structure

Altenkessel

The district with 5474 inhabitants was built in the 19th century as a mining community. In 1929 the Church of St. Elisabeth was built.

  • Settlement (today mostly to Ottenhausen) in the northwest
  • Rod mill (today mostly in Ottenhausen) in the extreme southwest

  • Krughütte in the center
  • Klarenthal in the northeast
  • Dellbrückschacht in the east and southeast

Demarcation

In the course of Klarenthal's independence from Gersweiler, the definition of the borders was partly based on private interests, which is why the border is nowadays somewhat different from the political border in the perception of the population. The political border begins approx. 2 km west of the border with the French Schœneck (which therefore only de facto borders on its partner municipality Klarenthal) and runs in a northerly direction from Petite-Rosselle through the forest area south of Klarenthal, which belongs entirely to Gersweiler, to the Klarenthaler Straße Am Break . From there in an easterly direction parallel to the Krughütte cemetery, then to the north along a forest path, finally along the aforementioned cemetery into the street Am Ziegelhof , whose median strip 250 m to the west is identical to the demarcation. The south-east border then runs through the middle of a plot of land and then over the middle of the streets Tulpenstrasse and Weidenstrasse , as well as an alley. Then along a property line and through the middle of the street Am Aschbacherhof in the direction of Kreisstraße (L274). From here, since a border correction in 1972, the border runs through the middle to Kokereistraße (L163), where the border to the north again follows the middle of the road (i.e. the middle of the left-turning lane). Klarenthal ends at a railway bridge of the Rosseltalbahn , Gersweiler runs further north and finds its northern limit in the middle of the river Saar (with the exception of the Luisenthaler bridge, which belongs entirely to the Völklingen district of Luisenthal, and the Luisenthal lock, which, contrary to its name, has both Ufern belongs to Gersweiler and is otherwise completely enclosed by the Saarbrücken district of Burbach.)

particularities

Völklinger influence

Historically, today's West District includes parts of the Völklingen area of influence. Before the territorial reform in 1974 , the smaller communities Altenkessel and Klarenthal in the Saarbrücken district were assigned to the next largest city in the district - since Saarbrücken was an independent city , this was Völklingen. Therefore, the two current parts of the city are partly served by the Völklingen bus company, Völklingen taxis do not regard trips to Altenkessel or Klarenthal as “leaving the city”; Corresponding envelopes are only due from Gersweiler / Burbach. They used to be supplied by the Völklingen municipal utilities .

Primaries

While Gersweiler and Burbach share the area code 0681 with the rest of the city of Saarbrücken (with the exception of Ensheim, Bübingen and Dudweiler), Klarenthal and Altenkessel have the Völklingen area code 06898. This is based on the fact that the border “in the middle “The two cities continued.
