Location of Bübingen in Saarland

Bübingen is a district of the Saarland capital Saarbrücken .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1310 under the name Bibingen or Bybinga . The place was probably founded as Bobingas in the time between the Frankish conquest and the late 8th century , ie as the "place of the people of Bobo".

Bübingen originally belonged to the Lords of Bliesbrücken , whose possessions fell to various lords in the 13th century. From then on, Criechingen and Saarbrücken fought over the rights to Bübingen, which finally fell to Nassau-Saarbrücken in 1670 and subsequently belonged to the Güdingen dairy in the Saarbrücken Oberamt. In the Peace of Campo Formio in 1797, the entire Saar area was annexed to France. Bübingen came to Mairie Arnual in 1800, to Kleinblittersdorf in 1802, and to Sankt Arnual mayor in 1812 . When the latter came to Saarbrücken in 1896, Bübingen was incorporated into Brebach . With this it was incorporated into Saarbrücken on January 1, 1974 in the course of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland in 1974 . The Bübingen quarry had been of great importance since the 15th century. Bübinger sandstones were used for many important buildings in Saarbrücken. From the 18th century there were lime kilns in the village. In the 19th century, Bübingen was known for its building materials industry. The chimneys of the lime works , which existed from 1900 to 1966, were among the tallest in Germany. Because of its industrial facilities, Bübingen was the target of Allied bombing raids in 1940, 1942 and 1944. The only building that has survived from the Middle Ages is the Protestant parish church with its tower from the 12th century.
