State archive in Scheidt

The Landesarchiv Saarbrücken is the state archive of the Saarland and is based in Saarbrücken - Scheidt .

The legal basis for the work is the Saarland Archives Act of September 23, 1992, which came into force on January 1, 1993 (Saarland Official Gazette 1992, p. 1094).

The holdings include administrative files as well as bequests and company archives. Older holdings that were stored in the Koblenz and Speyer archives - which were responsible until 1918 - were transferred to the Saarbrücken state archive in 1973. A sports archive has also existed since 2001, which was founded for the Saarland together with the state sports association .

The archive, established in 1948 , was located in Bismarckstrasse (St. Johann) until 1967 , then on Ludwigsplatz (old Saarbrücken) and from 1979 to 1997 in the Villa Hirsch on Rotenbühl (St. Johann) . Today it is housed in the former building of the Klinke print shop in Scheidt .
