The district Oberthal is the eponymous district of the municipality Oberthal in the district of St. Wendel in Saarland and forms its own municipality.
history
The Oberthal district emerged from the former independent villages of Imweiler, Osenbach and Linden. With the ordinance of September 22, 1823, the official name was declared "Oberthal" on October 1, 1823. From 1200 to 1766 the place belonged to the Duchy of Lorraine, which in 1766 fell to the Kingdom of France by way of succession. By treaty of November 15, 1786, the Kingdom of France ceded this area to the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken (actual transfer in March 1787). During the French rule, Oberthal formed its own Marie.
The construction of the Church of St. Stephen was completed in 1933.

Oberthal previously belonged to the parish of Bliesen and has been its own parish since 1803.
