Location of Steinberg -ckenhardt in Saarland

Steinberg-ceiling hardt is a district of the municipality Oberthal (Saar) in the district of St. Wendel in Saarland .

history

The two place names contain local conditions as the ancestors from Steinberg -ckenhardt found. Volcanic rubble covers the slopes of Steinmar. The “mar” in today's name of the mountain means nothing else than “mountain”. So comes from “berisch”, which was later abraded to “merisch” and is contained in both the dialectal “Steinmerisch” and the neighboring “Mommerisch” (Momberg). Deckhardt is composed of old Germanic words. " Hardt " is a frequently used term for mountain forest ( Hardt , Harz , Spessart ). "Thick" means both "dense" and "fat". Because our ancestors liked to use mountain forests as pastures for pigs , ceiling hardt can be translated either as "dense mountain forest " or "fat forest pasture ". Anyone who knows the Hahnenkräh and the Silbersberg knows how obvious these interpretations are.

Traces of settlement can be found up to the Neolithic Age , as evidenced by a cut, pointed stone ax . The traces continue via Celtic graves to finds from Roman times . When the Roman Empire fell apart, the Franks invaded the area around Steinberg -ckenhadt. The region was a gift from the Frankish king to the Frankish noble Adalgisel Grimo , who bequeathed the estate to Bishop Paulus of Verdun in his will from 634 .

The first documentary mention is on March 2, 1354, when Heinrich von Veldenz demanded compensation for war losses from Archbishop Boemund von Trier . After all, 12 taxable subjects lived with their families in the two towns. 1444 died with Friedrich III. von Veldenz made the count family in male line. Anna von Veldenz , Friedrich's daughter, gave her husband the inheritance to Count Palatine Stephan von Zweibrücken . In addition there was the village of Niedermeß, southwest of Steinberg, which in 1507 was still called von Wolfersweiler in the Weistum, but was called "Niedermeß the old village place" in 1600, so it was probably already deserted.

From 1817 to 1937 Steinberg andckenhardt belonged to the Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld as independent communities .

On January 1, 1974, Steinberg-ceiling hardt was incorporated into the municipality of Oberthal.
