It was only 7.5 km long and was in operation from 1930 to 1962, after the construction of a 2.5 m deep canal begun in 1949 to circumnavigate the rapids was completed. It was a narrow-gauge railway of the gauge mm 600th The operator was the Compagnie Générale de Transport en Afrique Equatoriale .
