Rail transport in Tunisia
The rail transport in Tunisia on the one hand from today des chemins de fer tunisiens national Société operated. The second provider is the Société des transports de Tunis , which operates the Tunis light rail system.
history
In Tunisia , both standard-gauge lines - primarily in the western half of the country, and meter- gauge lines in the east and south-east of the country - were built. Networks in both gauges exist to this day and meet in Tunis, where double-lane tracks lead into both the port and the Tunis Ville main station . This railway infrastructure was supplemented by railways with a gauge of 600 mm, which primarily served industrial and mining companies as well as the military. Unless they were re- tracked , these are shut down today.

A first line of a light rail system with a gauge of 1435 mm went into operation in 1985, others followed.
