Holz is located in the east of the wide-ranging community of Heusweiler on the western slope of the Göttelborner Höhe in the upper Köllertal . Neighboring towns are in the north Wahlschied , northeast Göttelborn , east Quierschied , southwest Riegelsberg and in the west Heusweiler. Wood borders the Saar coal forest in the south , which extends as far as Saarbrücken .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document on October 7th, 1344. The origin of the place name "Holz" lies in the clearing of the forest that took place there at this time.

A baroque hunting lodge from the middle of the 18th century reminds us that the princes of Nassau-Saarbrücken used to conduct extensive hunts in the woods around wood .

In the course of the regional and administrative reform , which came into force on January 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Holz was assigned to the municipality of Heusweiler.
