The St. Josef Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Holz , a district of the Saarland community of Heusweiler . It bears the patronage of St. Joseph . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The current parish church was built between 1926 and 1927 according to plans by the architects Prior and Casel ( Trier ), after an emergency church built in 1892 had become too small due to population growth . Like today's church, the emergency church was also dedicated to St. Joseph.

A first restoration of the church took place in the years 1945 to 1950. The liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council led in 1965 to a redesign of the sanctuary . In the years 1975 to 1978 the choir underwent a further redesign and was given its present shape. As part of a major renovation of the entire church, which was carried out from 1990 to 1993, the nave was finally given its final appearance.

In 2000 the sanctuary was redesigned. From 2005 to 2006 restoration work was carried out by the Ziemer (wood) company.

Furnishing

The church's furnishings include the Joseph Altar, which was created in 1895 by the sculptor Stefan Cohen ( Coburg ). It was restored in 2002 by restorer Manfred Schöndorf ( Ottweiler ).

The altar, ambo and tabernacle were designed by sculptor Hans Rams ( Niederbreitbach ) as part of the redesign of the chancel in 2000. Master stone sculptor Gordon Schnur ( Marpingen ) was responsible for the execution .
