history

First documented mention in 880 in a confirmation document of Ludwig III. for a donation "Easter Aha" to the Frankfurt Salvatorkapelle by his father Ludwig the German .

Reorganization

As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Oberkirchen was assigned to the municipality of Freisen on January 1, 1974.

Economy and Infrastructure

Two country roads run through the village, and the village is also connected to the Ostertalbahn, which has been reactivated as a tourist train. The A 62 can be reached via the Freisen and Reichweiler junctions, each around 4 km away.

The Türkismühle – Kusel railway line was dismantled in the 1960s on the Freisen and Kusel section and converted into a cycle and hiking trail (Fritz-Wunderlich-Weg).

Local businesses include a butcher's shop, a bakery, a gas station as well as various craft businesses and a car dealership.

There is also a convertible swimming pool with a mobile roof that can be converted from an indoor pool to an outdoor pool (or vice versa) within a few minutes.
