Location of Eitzweiler in Saarland

Eitzweiler is a part of the Saarland municipality of Freisen in the St. Wendel district . Until the end of 1973 Eitzweiler was an independent municipality.

geography

Eitzweiler is located in the Freisbach valley at an altitude of 446 meters. The highest elevation in the north is the Einell with 533 meters, in the south the Rothsberg is the highest with 521 meters.

history

The origin of the place is still largely unclear. Since it is a hamlet village, it should have been settled in the 7th or 8th century. Remains of a Roman country villa are in the "Hühnerschießer" district.

From 1933 to 1949, Eitzweiler was merged with the neighboring Asweiler to form the Asweiler-Eitzweiler community. From 1817 to 1937 Asweiler belonged to the Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld , then to 1947 to the district of Birkenfeld and since then to the Saarland.

As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Eitzweiler was assigned to the municipality of Freisen on January 1, 1974.
