history

Around 1790 Freisen belonged to the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken . In January 1817 the mayor's office in Berschweiler in the canton of Baumholder ( Principality of Lichtenberg / Duchy of Saxony-Coburg) came into being. On October 1, 1823, Freisen moved to the extended Burglichtenberg mayor in Berschweiler (Berschweiler mayor was dissolved). When the former Principality of Lichtenberg was taken over by the Kingdom of Prussia as part of the Rhine Province in 1834, Freisen (since April 1, 1937 in the Birkenfeld district) remained with the mayor's office or the Burglichtenberg office in Berschweiler until 1939. On April 1, 1939, the offices of Oberkirchen in Oberkirchen and Burglichtenberg in Berschweiler were combined to form the new Freisen office in Berschweiler. In the summer of 1944, the administrative seat of the Freisen Office was relocated from Berschweiler to Freisen. On June 24, 1947 Freisen came to the administrative district or Amt Türkismühle (in Saarland), which was renamed to Amt Nohfelden on November 1, 1956.
