The St. Gangolf Church is a Roman Catholic parish church dedicated to St. Gangolf in Differten , a district of the Saarland community of Wadgassen , Saarlouis district . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The church, which is located in the center of Differten, was built between 1891 and 1893 according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Hector ( Saarbrücken-St. Johann ). A baptistery was added in 1902–03 .

With effect from September 1, 2011, the parish of St. Gangolf became part of the newly established parish community of Wadgassen in the Wadgassen deanery . The parish community also includes the parishes of the Visitation of Mary in Wadgassen, the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Hostenbach , the Guardian Angel in Schaffhausen and St. Antonius of Padua in Werbeln .

In 2004 the baptistery was subjected to restoration and renovation measures.

Architecture and equipment

The parish church of St. Gangolf , built in the neo-Gothic style, is a so - called three - aisled stepped hall or pseudo-basilica , a hybrid form between basilica and hall church . The exterior gives a basilical impression, but in contrast to a real basilica, the central nave is less elevated than the two side aisles . This results in a lower upper aisle without window openings between the aisle roofs and the eaves of the central or main nave. The church building is divided into the tower with spire , the fünfjochige nave and the five-sided polygonal final chorus . The middle yoke of the aisles is emphasized on the exterior by a gable .

The church is equipped with a baptismal font by the artist Walter Schirra (Differten). The stained glass window with St. Aloysius as a motif was made in 1903 by the company Gebr. Fries ( Trier ).
Other items of equipment include numerous figures of saints , a way of the cross in the form of a cycle of pictures, and a winged altar in the choir.

organ

Up to 2002 there was an organ from Eduard Sebald Orgelbau (Trier) in the church, which was built in 1939 as Opus 10. The Kegelladen - instrument with electro-pneumatic playing and stop action had 30 stops , distributed over two manuals and pedal .

After abandoning the Sebald organ in 2002, the Differten parish acquired an instrument built in 1957 by the French organ building company Haerpfer & Erman ( Boulay ), which was originally built for the Sacred Heart Church in Ludweiler , which was abandoned in 2001 due to pit damage . The Hugo Mayer company ( Heusweiler ) undertook a fundamental renovation and revision of the instrument and installed it in the church.

The Kegelladen instrument has 43 stops , divided into three manuals and pedal . The action mechanism is electro-pneumatic, the stop action is electric. The disposition is as follows:
