Werbeln is a part of the municipality of Wadgassen in the Saarlouis district ( Saarland ). It is located on the river Bist , a left tributary of the Saar, and currently has around 1200 inhabitants. The name Werbeln , part of the municipality , probably comes from the vortex in the river , meaning the Bist. From September 12 to 14, 2014, Werbel celebrated its 800th anniversary. The basis for this is the first mention of the name in a deed of donation from 1214.
history
Numerous finds from Roman times suggest that there was a small settlement in the Werbeln area. During construction work in 1877/8, the remains of a Roman well, in 1936 a Roman grave with some additions and in 1956 a Roman foundation were discovered. The oldest known mention of the place comes from the year 1214 . Werbeln was explicitly listed as a village term in a deed of donation to the Wadgasser Abbey. Wadgasser Abbey shaped the image of Werbeln for many centuries. A sheep farm was established there under her management in 1385. She also built a sawmill in Werbeln in 1669 with the help of Tyrolean woodworkers, which was converted into a grain mill after being destroyed and rebuilt in 1790. Work on the glassworks in Werbeln, which was completed in 1687/8, began in 1684. The collaboration of the Huguenot merchant Pierre Liot with the Wadgasser Abbey thus established the first, small crystal shop under the Wadgasser spell. Production ran until 1720.
After the dissolution of the Wadgasser Abbey in the course of the French Revolution in 1792, the subsequent annexation of the community parts to the Differten mayor in 1815 and the establishment of an independent parish district in 1936, Werbeln was incorporated into the (greater) community of Wadgassen on January 1, 1974 last major administrative reform.

Today there is the St. Oranna Primary School in Werbeln, which can be attended from 1st to 4th grade.

- On September 13, 2014, the “Werbelner-Geschichte-Weg” was inaugurated as the municipality's newest circular hiking trail. It includes all historically interesting places in Werbeln: sheep farm, Bistkanal, Galgenberg, Hofgut, Werbeln poem, sawmill, glassworks, Quallenborn, Mohrengerät, Hunau, boundary stones from 1769, corridor cross, Celts, Römerweg, Hardt, Kapellerheck, coal shaft.
