The St. Andrew's Cathedral ( Russian Собор Андрея Первозванного ) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city Öskemen in Kazakhstan . It was built between 2001 and 2007 by the architect Jurij Michajlowitsch Traschkow and has space for about 2000 people.

history

Construction of the cathedral began in 2001. Construction was supported by the mayor of the city of Öskemen and the governor of the East Kazakhstan region . Several companies in the region (including Kazzinc and Ulba ) donated money for the construction of a new cathedral. The architect Jurij Michajlowitsch Traschkow was commissioned to build the cathedral.

On August 6, 2006, a service took place in the building for the first time; regular services have been celebrated since Christmas 2008. The St. Andrew's Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Monastery was consecrated on August 29, 2008 by the Metropolitan of Astana and Almaty .

architecture

The cathedral is built in the typical shape of a Russian Orthodox cathedral. A classic central building with a large golden dome in the middle and four other small golden domes on the four corners of the cathedral. There is a bell tower with a green roof above the entrance . The white and gold iconostasis was made by craftsmen from Volgodonsk, Russia .
