St. Anne's Church (Völkershausen)

The St. Anne's Church was until its destruction in 1989, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the district Völkershausen the city Vacha in Wartburgkreis in Thuringia .

history

The St. Anne's Church was built between 1717 and 1720 as probably the second church building in local history. It had a distinctive church tower on the west side, square at the bottom, octagonal at the top, crowned with a tail dome and a lantern , and a magnificent baroque portal on the west side of the tower. The nave was reached from the portal via a vestibule located inside the tower.

The rectangular interior had two-story wooden galleries and a simple wooden ceiling. The balcony-like pulpit was behind the altar. The font came from the first half of the 17th century, possibly from the previous building. There were several historical tombstones from the 17th century in and around the church.

When the Völkershausen mountain strike on March 13, 1989, the building was severely damaged and subsequently had to be demolished.

Today's Michaeliskirche

New building

Today's Michaeliskirche was built in the same place. After construction began on June 3, 1991, the topping-out ceremony was held on November 16, 1991, and the consecration took place on November 29, 1992. Parts of the interior, the baptismal font and the collection of historical tombstones were taken over in the new building.
