history

The St. Bartholomew Church was a pilgrimage church until around 1500 , the pilgrim catchment area of which extended into the province of Brandenburg. After the Reformation, it was tradition that the divine service on Bartholomew's Day in Bad Bodenteich was canceled and the churchgoers came to Lüder. After the service, people celebrated a fair in front of the church. This tradition lasted until the end of the 18th century. This festival was abolished, however, as it degenerated so that it was popularly known as the "Huns Festival". After the Reformation, a catechism lecture was given every four weeks in Lüder . However, these gradually stopped and were eventually replaced by 13 sermon services per year. In 1729 the church in Lüder was completely dilapidated and fell into disrepair, so that in 1773 even the tower threatened to collapse. The residents of Lüders did nothing. Their reason was that there was no money for it. The church supply collections in the entire Principality of Lüneburg and in the County of Hoya made it their task to carry out the most necessary work from 1736 to 1774. In 1867 the church in Lüder was thoroughly renovated. The next renovation was carried out in 1934 and cost 857  RM , but minor repairs and painting were done between these two dates, but only the bare essentials were done. So moisture became noticeable in the foundation walls, so as a countermeasure the interior was paneled with wood to give it the character of a living room and was given a new coat of paint, and stars were also painted on the ceiling to give it the character of the sky. During the Second World War, the church was saved from major damage. In 1960/61 the church was renovated again and the interior was redesigned. The wood paneling and the starry ceiling were removed, the moisture fought accordingly, and the church regained its village-like character. At the same time the bell was equipped with an electric bell. In 1983 the first confirmation took place in the church in Lüder.

Cemetery chapel

The cemetery chapel belongs to the Samtgemeinde Aue. It was built in 1972 with funds from the political community. Since the living conditions were scarce and many displaced persons had moved from the former German eastern regions , it was not possible for many to keep the deceased at home in the event of bereavement. For this reason, a small morgue was built in 1952 . During the funeral ceremonies, the coffin was kept in the morgue and the mourners had to stand outside regardless of the weather or the funeral ceremony took place in the church. Since this condition was felt to be unsatisfactory by the parishioners, a chapel was built. The chapel was inaugurated on October 7, 1972 in the presence of the provost from Uelzen.
