The Vilnius Seminary (lit. Vilniaus Šv. Juozapo kunigų seminarija ) is a Catholic seminary in Vilnius , the capital of Lithuania , the second oldest Lithuanian university . The course lasts 6 years and begins with the preparatory course. The seminarians from the Archdiocese of Vilnius study at the seminar .

history

The seminary was founded in 1582 by Bishop Jurgis Radvila . It was run by Jesuits . The seminar was active 1582–1654 / 1661 (?), 1722–1915 / 1918 (?), 1920–1942, 1943–1945. In July 1993 it was re-established by Metropolitan Audrys Juozas Bačkis . Since 1998 the seminary has been called St. Joseph .
