Józef Obrębski ( Lithuanian Juzefas Obrembskis ; born March 19, 1906 in Nowy Skarżyn , Powiat Zambrowski , then Russian Empire ; † June 7, 2011 in Maišiagala , Lithuania ) was a Polish Catholic priest, prelate , from 2001 an honorary citizen of the Vilnius district .

Life

In 1926 he graduated from grammar school in Ostrów Mazowiecka and studied at the Juozapas seminary in Vilnius . From 1927 to 1932 he completed his studies at the theology faculty of the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius. On June 12, 1932, Obrębski was ordained a priest . Until 1950 he worked as a vicar in Turgeliai in the district of Šalčininkai and from 1950 in Maišiagala in the district of Vilnius . During his lifetime he was the oldest clergyman in Lithuania.

On February 16, 2011, the Polish President Bronisław Komorowski awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland .
