Gintaras Linas Grušas (born September 23, 1961 in Washington, DC , USA ) is a Lithuanian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vilnius .

Life

The Archbishop of Vilnius, Audrys Juozas Backis , consecrated him on 25 June 1994 on priests . From 2001 to 2003 Grušas was Regens of the Vilnius Seminary .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him military bishop of Lithuania on June 19, 2010 . He was ordained episcopate on September 4th of the same year by the Archbishop of Vilnius, Cardinal Audrys Juozas Bačkis; Co- consecrators were Eugenijus Bartulis , Bishop of Šiauliai , and Sigitas Tamkevičius SJ , Archbishop of Kaunas . In addition to his work as a military bishop, Grušas also held the position of general secretary of the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference .

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Vilnius on April 5, 2013. On June 9, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Clergy . On October 28, 2014, he was elected chairman of the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference. On July 13, 2016, he became a member of the Communication Secretariat (today: Dicastery for Communication ) of the Roman Curia .
