Hotel Bregaglia
The Hotel Bregaglia is in an exposed location in Promontogno, the upper part of the village of Bondo in Bergell in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It comes from the pioneering days of summer tourism in the canton of Graubünden. The Hotel Bregaglia is one of the few monumental buildings in the valley and is an example of Alpine hotel architecture from the early days . It is one of the few hotels that has largely remained in its original Belle Époque state .
history
The architect of the Hotel Bregaglia was the Italian Giovanni Sottovia from Vicenza, who had built several hotels in southern Switzerland and the palazzi in Poschiavo . The hotel was built in 1875/76 as a transition station so that the guests from Italy could slowly get used to the mountain climate of St. Moritz - sometimes for several weeks . Later tourists came from England and Germany. It also served as a place of rest for convalescents.
construction
The house with the distinctive octagonal tower and two wings is V-shaped and adapted to the topography of the site. The hexagonal atrium with a glass roof inside was used to light the ground floor rooms when the rooms were not yet electrically lit. A ceiling was later put in over the first floor.
The hotel rooms and corridors are partly richly decorated with figural paintings. The majority of the rooms are simply furnished, but largely preserved in their original form.
In front of the spacious foyer, a wide staircase leads to the upper floors. There is a small park on the mountain side where the carriages used to pull up. A post office and a small restaurant are now integrated into the hotel. The hotel is located on the St. Moritz- Lugano and St. Moritz- Chiavenna postbus routes .

The “Arte Hotel Bregaglia” exhibition was organized for the first time in 2010 in the Hotel Bregaglia; It was continued in 2012. Several Swiss artists developed various kinds of installations specifically for the location.
