The St. Joseph Church is a monument in the town of Velten in the Oberhavel district in the state of Brandenburg .

Architecture and history

Construction of the Catholic St. Joseph Church at Schulstrasse 7 began in 1895 and ended one year later with the consecration . At that time there was a Catholic parish of around 200 people. Organizationally, this is now part of the Hennigsdorf parish and is affiliated with the Oranienburg dean's office in the Archdiocese of Berlin . Opposite, at Schulstrasse 11, is the rectory .

The church is built in the neo-Romanesque style according to the plans of the master bricklayer Wilhelm Dassler in brick construction. Between 1965 and 1967 it was redesigned.

The interior of the church is mostly from the post-war period. Hans Adolf from Burg near Magdeburg created the altar, baptismal font, tabernacle, altar and Easter candlesticks as well as the hanging cross. The Stations of the Cross are from Georg Nawroth from Görlitz . The church is decorated with figures of the Mother of God and St. Joseph. It has multi-colored windows in the choir and nave.

In the direction of Schulstrasse, where the portal of the church is oriented, the construction-time fencing of picket fence fields with brick bases and pillars has been preserved.
