The St. Marien Church is a church in Heiligenstedten .

A church existed in Heiligenstedten as early as the 9th century as one of the oldest church foundations north of the Elbe . It was probably related to Esesfeld Castle, which was also built in the 9th century . The current church building dates from the end of the 13th century; it received its present appearance by reconstruction in 1580. 1826 was the church sitting on a hitherto mound was in the outer dike diked. The church is still a few steps lower than the entrance.

The church is one of the cultural monuments of the community of Heiligenstedten , including its furnishings, bell chair, churchyard and churchyard grille .

The parish today belongs to the Rantzau-Münsterdorf parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .
