The Martinskirche in Schiffdorf near Bremerhaven belongs to the Bremerhaven parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover .

history

It is considered possible that a knight Arnold from Schiffdorf, who is mentioned in a document in 1235, had the Martinskirche built. In 1420 the Martinskirche ("capella in Schipdorf") was first mentioned in the Stader Register.

Building

The church building has a single nave, i.e. a hall church . The nave and choir are vaulted, the choir with an early Gothic domical vault , the three nave bays with pointed arched ribbed vaults and only hinted pointed arches. is of Romance origin. The emerging masonry was built in the 14th century. A defense tower was later built on the west side. Around 1750, strong pillars were attached to the north and south sides. In 1838 the tower cock was replaced by a ship as a wind vane, in 1985 a ball and a cross were added.

Furnishing

The winged altar in the choir is striking with three rows of pictures. In terms of content, it belongs to the Passion Altars with Christ in the middle and probably dates from the end of the 15th century. The altar table was rebuilt in 1955 and provided with an old grave slab. The medieval baptismal font has had its place in front of the pulpit since 1986. The galleries were built in 1908 in the neo-Gothic style. The organ from the company Hammer from Hanover has 14 registers and 1096 pipes. It was built in 1958.

Peal

The Martinskirche has four bells. The bell from 1635 was delivered for war purposes in 1942, brought back in 1949 and reworked into a bell. A second bell was cast in Stade in 1701. The big bell from 1460 was delivered and melted down in 1942. In 1961 the largest and smallest bells were re-cast by the Rincker company .
